Dan Elkes, PhD
Senior Vice President, Head of the Institute of Technology and Portfolio Management
Dr. Dan Elkes is SVP, Head of the Institute of Technology and Portfolio Management at Altos Labs.
In his role, he has established our portfolio and project ecosystem management and manages critical science hubs such as Genomics, Bioinformatics, and Mass Spectrometry, driving operational excellence to enable the success of science across all Altos Institutes. Dan previously led portfolio strategy and planning for Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED), which delivered more than 80 drug candidates into development. He catalyzed gRED 2025, a strategy to propel Genentech's research and development into the future. Dan helped shepherd the development and commercialization of the blockbuster immunotherapies, ipilimumab and nivolumab, at Medarex. Additionally, he worked as a scientist and management consultant at Exelixis. Dan studied Molecular Biology and Public Policy at Princeton and received his PhD in Genetics at Harvard.
